Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has been used since 3000 B.C. Turmeric is quite popular in India and other Asian, East African, and Caribbean dishes. Turmeric is a member of the Zingiberaceae known as the ginger family.

The turmeric plant can grow up to 3 ft high and has long, dark green leaves that can get up to about 5 inches wide

Turmeric Root

Turmeric takes between 7-10 months from planting to harvest depending on the climate where it’s growing. Turmeric thrives in tropical climate between 68-104 degrees.

Benefits:

Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric and has a wide range of therapeutic effects. Curcumin is an antioxidant that helps stabilize membranes damaged by inflammation. Turmeric stimulates digestion, supports the liver and immune system.
